The RCLB welcomes our July 20, 2017 speaker, Jan Neuharth, an attorney, award-winning author, and avid equestrian. Jan practiced law in Los Angeles before her love of horses drew her to the Virginia hunt country. In 1985, she traded her suit and briefcase for boots and breeches and she and Swiss-born husband, Joseph Keusch, established Paper Chase Farms in Middleburg.

Neuharth’s experiences in law and the hunt-country lifestyle are what spurred her to write her first novel, The Hunt, which was released in 2003. While she is quick to point out that her Hunt Country Suspense novels are pure fiction, Neuharth writes with an insider’s perspective, gathering inspiration from everyday life in the historic hunt country for the setting, plots, and characters in her books.

Neuharth is Chair and CEO of The Freedom Forum, a nonpartisan foundation based in Washington, DC that champions the First Amendment as a cornerstone of democracy. She also serves on the boards of several non-profit, corporate, and community organizations.
