Club Meeting Report

Sarah Murphy and Valerie Beaudoin were inducted as new members, sponsored by Dee Jonas and Stanley Caulkins, respectively.

Sarah, whose classification is Professional Services – International, is an Irish citizen who was born and educated in Cork, Ireland.   She is a Chartered Management Accountant by profession, with over 20 years in the International Commercial Finance arena.  She is with British Standards Institution (BSI Group), where she currently holds the position of Chief Financial Officer for the Americas.  Having spent most of her career in the international arena, Sarah has lived in such locations as London and Hong Kong and now Leesburg.

Valerie, whose classification is Computer – Consulting, was born and raised in Montréal, Canada.  She obtained a Bachelor's degree in Criminology at the University of Montreal and, after a year of splitting her time between helping young adults in difficulties regain control of their lives and working with an Internet Service Provider, accepted a full-time position at PSiNet Canada in Ottawa as a customer service representative for French speaking clients.  After other valuable work experience in Canada, Valerie moved to the US approximately five years ago and lives in Leesburg.  She specializes in managing mobile application development and leads three teams of developers on a variety of projects.

Stanley says Valerie has taught him all he knows about computers.  We don’t know if that’s a great recommendation, but we do know Valerie and Sarah will be outstanding Club Members.

Two guests were Jenny Sofologis, who has expressed interest in becoming a Rotarian and is visiting Loudoun County clubs, and our speaker’s husband, Brian.

Our speaker for the evening, Susan Mandel Giblion, told us about the support the more than 225 Loudoun Volunteer Caregivers provide to the frail, elderly and disabled adults who need that assistance to maintain independent living.  Offering their time, expertise and commitment to service, these volunteers provide a wide range of support services, including transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping, meal preparation, household chores, special outings and help with managing personal financial affairs.  Our own Hugh Forsythe Chairs the organization’s Board of Directors.

Yours in Rotary Service

Mike
