ImageThe Rotary Club of Leesburg's International Committee selected initiatives for water, bridges and diabetes as part of a three-year plan. The committee, chaired by George Webber, continues to lead the club in balancing a strong commitment to serve the local community with efforts to address global needs.

The intent is to develop, sponsor and conduct international service programs to advance international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons with an ideal of humanitarian service.  Three of the key programs that Club Rotarians are actively engaged in doing are:
  • Rotary Footbridges for Guatemala (pictured) - five bridges planned across ravines and valleys, working with the Rotary Clubs of Bailey's CrossRoads, Herndon, Springfield and Matthews
  • Clean Water Project in Zambia - five-year well drilling and water sanitation in remote Zambia; four new wells in 2011-12 + latrines, etc. (plus 11 completed); working with the “Gang of Five” (Dulles, Leesburg, Tysons, Vienna, Bailey’s CrossRoads)
  • Loudoun Free Clinic Diabetic Patient Mgmt Program - one year program to assist Clinic in development of software, hardware and network tools to automate diabetes patient maintenance management - long-term potential for national and international applications; District Simplified Grant; significant volunteer hours and in-kind donations by Leesburg Rotarians
