SHADE is a nonprofit organization founded by Claire Grubbs Fedele, a young woman from Loudoun County. SHADE operates in Tanzania to bring hope and life to people with albinism. In Tanzania, people with albinism are thought to possess magical powers and are kidnapped and murdered for their body parts. Children with albinism are brought to impoverished government-run centers for protection. SHADE has operated within one of these centers to help educate, bring health care and supplement the diets for children. SHADE also partners with local organizations to send young adults to vocational school and to teach them life skills to equip them with the confidence and ability to start a life and business of their own. SHADE has acquired land and has the vision to build a holistic community with homes for vulnerable children, quality schools, a clinic, resource center and sustainable water and food production. Come hear how SHADE is making a difference in the lives of these young people with albinism.
